At surface level, Tea Time with Baba, observes a familial moment between Iranian father and daughter over tea and fruit. What is unknown is the capacity in which the father is present. The split-screen single channel video considers impermanence of not only the tangible moments of drinking tea with a loved one but the ungraspable disappearance of all things. It portrays that which is often left unnoticed by the hurried eye and presented beneath suggestions of longing and sadness.
The choice to exclude subtitles was heavily considered. While the father is speaking English, his accent is thick, which for some may be difficult to follow. This inevitably forces the audience to slow down, stay a while, and pay attention (should they choose to do so).
Performance for video. Split-screen single channel video Time: 8 min 37 sec.
